minamata disease
Πρόκειται για μία νευρολογική πάθηση. Η αιτία της εμφάνισης της εντοπίζεται στην δηλητηρίαση του οργανισμού από υδράργυρο. Προκαλεί μυϊκή ατροφία στα αρχικά στάδια ενώ σε πιο προχωρημένα μπορει να οδηγήσει σε παραλυσία ή ακόμα και στο θάνατο.
Πήρε το όνομα της από ένα χωριό (Minamata) της Ιαπωνίας, όπου πρωτοεμφανίστηκε. κοντά σε αυτό είχε δημιουργηθεί μια βιομηχανική μονάδα που για λόγους οικονομίας μα κυρίως σχετικής άγνοιας (τότε?), απέβαλε τα υδραργυρικά απόβλητα της στην κοντινή θαλάσσια περιοχή. Αυτό συνεχίστηκε για αρκετά χρόνια (1932-1968) και τα πρώτα συμπτώματα της πρωτοεμφανίστηκαν στις γάτες (εμφάνισαν αυτοκτονικό ιδεασμό!!!) που ήταν άμεσα εκτεθειμένες στην περιοχή αυτή. Ωστόσο δεν άργησε να εμφανιστεί και τους ανθρώπους που έπιναν ένα από τα τοξικότερα χημικά παραπροϊόντα.
Μέχρι το 2001 είχαν πεθάνει 1784 άνθρωποι από αυτή την ασθένεια.
Κι όλα αυτά εξαιτίας της ασυνηδεισίας κάποιων...
κι αν τότε δεν ήξεραν ΣΗΜΕΡΑ ΣΙΓΟΥΡΑ ΞΕΡΟΥΝ.....
